Details on Senior Classes:
(For context, the classes are self expressive art classes, not fine art focused, so they won't necessarily have a stunning outcome, but folks will likely feel positively stimulated.)
One Class Example:
The class will be geared towards activating as many senses as possible: sight, touch, smell, sound, activating memory by encouraging story-telling & playing topic related sounds (bird chirping, etc.) that they will be encouraged to identify.
Class would include the option of coloring the outlines of various types of birds (or drawing the birds themselves using a picture reference). Then they can cut out and paste the pictures onto colored paper.
This usually takes about an hour.
Another option is to post everyone's work onto a large shared collage, using poster board, that could be hung on a wall.
Adding the collage element can be stretched into 1.5 hours if you prefer.

Does this spark your interest? I’m here to support you on your journey toward resilience and hope!
One participant shared: "I came in feeling stuck & distressed and I walked out hopeful and inspired by my newly shifted perspective."
Additional Class Details:
Art for Healing classes beautifully complement traditional talk therapy. Since art making activates emotion, memory and the imagination, these art classes highlight therapeutic topics at different angles that open new ways of thinking. While art making typically activates the right brain, journaling and speaking activate the left brain. This bi-lateral stimulation is linked to the healing of trauma within the brain.
These classes are effective for both individual work with a facilitator as well as within a group environment. This group class has the added healing benefit of growing and maintaining relationships with fellow participants. Additionally, witnessing others' artwork and hearing their explanations oftentimes multiplies participants' ideas for personal applications of the material.

More Reviews of Art for Healing Workshops
“I got so much out of my first Therapeutic Art workshop with Samantha. She is a
professional, engaging and passionate workshop leader. Samantha created a fun, safe,
relaxing and encouraging space to simply be, express myself freely and creatively. I
didn't have much expectations other than to enjoy myself and do something that would
help me to destress. Truly, I walked away with so much more. I came in feeling stuck
& distressed and I walked out hopeful and inspired by my newly shifted
perspective. I'd highly recommend therapeutic art workshops and sessions with
Samantha whether you just want to have fun, play and relax or are looking for a deeper
transformational and insightful experience. I'm looking forward to attending Samantha's
workshops on a regular basis as a part of my self-care, creative self-expression and
having fun.”

I liked this exercise because of how I was able to reflect on my feelings and responses
to the situations in my life. So much of the time, when I’m in a situation that may be
especially stressful, I look at my feelings as truth and as unable to be changed or
moved. However, with this exercise, I was able to change the painting, by creating a
different picture, to reflect a change in feeling about this situation. I realized that I can
change my response and change my feelings about especially stressful situations. This
allowed me to see that we have more power over feelings than we sometimes
realize, and they are often fluid and moving, much like the paint was in this
exercise.
